Description
About the Product
Chilgoza, known internationally as Pine Nuts, are the edible seeds of the chilgoza pine, grown in a narrow belt spanning parts of Afghanistan and the Western Himalayas. They are considered one of the more exclusive dry fruits due to the labour-intensive harvesting process.
Why Choose QandariMeewa
Given our roots in the Afghan dry fruit trade, we source chilgoza with attention to shell quality and kernel fill.
Taste & Texture
Chilgoza has a delicate, buttery, slightly resinous flavour, quite different from common nuts like almonds or cashews. The texture is soft and creamy once shelled.
How to Use
Popular eaten plain as a snack once cracked, or roasted lightly for extra flavour. Also used in Indian sweets, pulao, and international dishes like pesto.
Storage Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat and moisture.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is chilgoza so expensive compared to other nuts?
Chilgoza pine cones must be hand-harvested from tall trees in remote, high-altitude regions, which makes the supply limited and harvesting labour-intensive.
Is this product in-shell or shelled?
This listing is for in-shell chilgoza. See our separate Pine Nut Kernels (Chilgoza Giri) listing for shelled.
